    Who is it suitable for?  This qualification is for those interested or just starting out in a career in hairdressing.

    What’s involved?  If you pursue a diploma, you'll learn the skills to succeed in your area - for example, women's hairdressing, barbering or colouring. You'll have access to a realistic salon environment where you'll practice and demonstrate your skills.

    Topics covered:

    • Working in the hair industry
    • Follow health and safety in the salon
    • Client consultation for hair services
    • Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
    • Promote products and services to clients in a salon
    • Cut men’s hair
    • Cut facial hair
    • Colour and lighten hair
    • Styling men’s hair

    Plus a selection of optional units including perm and neutralise hair, scalp massage, relax African type hair, provide threading services for hair removal, salon reception duties, display stock to promote sales in a salon and create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector.

    Delivery method A mixture of prior home study, classroom revision, group discussions, assignments and workshop practical training.

    Assessment methods Online multiple-choice tests, practical and written assessments.

    Entry requirements Candidates must be able to demonstrate good customer service. You don’t need a current work placement to enrol onto this qualification and there are options for those with little or no experience. Entry will be based on initial assessments and an interview.
