    Who is it suitable for?

    This qualification enables the learner, to demonstrate and recognise their skills, knowledge and understanding and to demonstrate their competence in a real workplace environment so the learner can work in Fenestration Installation within the construction industry.

    The broad purpose of this occupation is to manufacture finished fenestration products such as conservatory roofing, curtain walls, glazed doors, glazed screening, roof lanterns, roof lights, patent/slope glazing, secondary glazing, shop fronts and windows. They usually specialise in a particular material – aluminium, timber, steel or uPVC and a range of products. They cut and assemble profiles together. Depending on the product they may add glass units, ancillary items for example, fixings and fastening, handles, hinges, locks and louvers, along with weatherproofing for example, gaskets, seals, membranes and sealants. Regardless of the product or material, it involves working to a specification, in line with quality standards, health and safety and environmental considerations.

    What’s involved?
    This is a combined qualification and therefore involves a combination of demonstrating practical skills in a real working environment as well as understanding the knowledge and principles of the sector. Candidates will complete the following mandatory units along with a selection of optional units, chosen to match their specific job role:

    • Communicating and Working with Others in the Glass and Related Working Environments
    • Identify and Confirm Installation Requirements in Glass and Related Work
    • Maintain Health and Safety in the Fenestration Installation Working Environment
    • Locate, Transport, Handle and Position and Materials and Components in Fenestration Installation.

    The learner will also learn key practical skills and knowledge in four of the following optional units:

    • Prepare the Site, Equipment and Tools for Fenestration Installation
    • Remove Existing Windows and Doors and Prepare Apertures
    • Prepare and Shape Fenestration Installation Products and Materials
    • Prepare and Position Window and Door Units Ready for Installation
    • Install Glass and / or Panels into Windows and Doors
    • Install Conservatories
    • Install Windows and Doors
    • Post Windows, Doors or Conservatories Installation Activity
    • Maintain / Repair Windows and Doors or Conservatories
    • Understanding the Building Regulations in the Fenestration Industry
